Room 19 is full of Phenomenal First Graders! We work very hard at learning and we are growing each and every day. Naturally, as the days and months change  so do our skills and what we learn. This page is to inform you of what we are currently doing in our classroom. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me. Also, please remember to check our classroom web page monthly for updates and don't forget to sign our guestbook!

Dear First Grade Families,
Fall is finally here and the weather has been quite mild for the season. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately as we continue to have afternoon recess and the temperature tends to fluctuate greatly indoors and out. A coat is a MUST. If your child does not have the proper outerwear he/she will remain inside during recess.
As we admire the fall leaves and settle into our classroom routines I ask that you continue to be a partner in your child's education by assisting him/her with our important 1st grade routines. We have homework Monday - Thursday. Please make sure you assist your child in unpacking their folder every night and reviewing important notes and homework. Encourage your child to do their first grade BEST on all the work they do.
Please make sure your child is reading his/her book-in-the bag 3x per week at home with you. Encourage him/her to practice reading strategies i.e. checking the picture, finding chunks, s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the letter sounds, etc..
Your child may record his/her book-in-the-bag book titles in addition to book titles from home on their Book Log. Book Logs are to be completed every night and are due on Fridays. Your child will receive a new Book Log to complete their reading for Friday evening ( in the event that your child does not recieve his/her new book log on Friday please send me a note or email as at times even teachers make mistakes).
You also received a set of First grade sight words at your childs Oct/Nov conference. Kindergarten sight words went home in September for review. Your child is responsible to be able to read all 40 First grade sight words by May so home practice is essential for mastery of these words.
We are also working hard with numbers in first grade as many of us are struggling with numbers above 10. Please help your child at home by writing and recognizing numbers not only 1-10 and 10-20,  work your way to 100. Number recognition, writing, and vocabulary are important mathematical skills.
Looking forward to seeing you on Family Night,
Miss Campbell
